A research stay gives you space to find out what a normal Tuesday might look like.

Choose a base in the area you are considering. Walk to the food shop, try the journey you would repeat most often and spend an ordinary evening nearby. If you work remotely, test a normal working day from the actual desk.

Compare what you observe with your current routine. A pleasant view matters, but so do noise, access, daylight and the places you would use every week. Keep one unanswered question for each place rather than forcing a decision during the visit.

Leave with a notebook, not just a camera roll.

Write down what worked, what felt difficult and what still needs checking. Separate your own observations from what someone told you. If you are moving with someone, compare your notes before agreeing on the next step.
